Bridal Shower and Wedding Cake
First there was a bridal shower.... The bride and groom love chocolate chip cookies, so I encorporated that into the cake.

I usually make back-up sugarpaste letters for my cakes, in case anything happens during transport. This time, they came in handy to add to the candy buffet that the bride put together.

Green and White Wedding Cake
A year ago, I made this little cupcake to congratulate one of my regular clients on her engagement.
A few weeks ago, she had her wedding day. I love this green tone and how the handmade sugarpaste peonies turned out. The cake was alternating layers of strawberry vanilla cake and vanilla bean cake, filled with strawberry buttercream and covered with vanilla swiss meringue buttercream.

Wedding Cupcake Tower
It was such a beautiful wedding atmosphere at Auberge du Pommier restaurant in Toronto. A simple and elegant wedding cupcake tower to complement the surroundings.
The cupcakes were chocolate sour cream with strawberry icing and zesty lemon with swiss meringue buttercream.

Pink and Gold Wedding Cake
I had the pleasure of creating this wedding cake for one of my dearest friends and her wonderful husband. She was very easy going and not picky about the design. I was also her bridesmaid so she wanted me to do whatever was easiest. She gave me a color palette of her flowers and said she liked square cake tiers.
The wedding was at the lovely, Graydon Hall Manor in Toronto. It was a perfect wedding weekend of events. I loved how the handmade sugarpaste flowers and final design turned out.
As I said in my Instagram post, each petal was worth it!

Ruffled Wedding Cake
On a gorgeous fall Sunday, I delivered this wedding cake to the beautiful McLean House at the Estates of Sunnybrook. I would say it was the most perfect day!
I loved where the cake table was set up by the staircase. It was perfect for this 3-tiered large ruffled wedding cake with a matching ruffled pedestal that the bride provided.

I love how this cake design came together - I felt like I was putting delicate large petals on this cake. I was also able to surprise the bride by creating a sugar flower that matched the flower design on her wedding dress.
Isn't this a lovely view from the top of the staircase?

Elegant and Tall Wedding Cake
A few weekends ago, I had the pleasure of making this wonderfully tall wedding cake. The wedding was held at the wonderful setting of Canoe which is on the 54th floor overlooking Toronto.
The cake tiers were double-tall cake tiers - strawberry vanilla cake with strawberry buttercream on the top two tiers and chocolate sour cream with vanilla swiss meringue buttercream on the bottom tier.

This avocado green cake design was inspired by one of my favorite cake artists, Rich Reichart, from Cakelava in Hawaii. I was lucky enough to take his first ever class back in March - see blog post.
Hope everyone is enjoying their summer - see you next Tuesday!

Simple and Elegant Wedding Cake
I haven't posted any recent wedding cakes in a while. Here is a lovely, simple and elegant wedding cake I did in the spring in the wonderful Distillery District of Toronto.
The wedding had fresh tulips scattered everywhere - I sure fell in love with tulips that day! I didn't make the tulips on the cake, but when I get an opportunity, I will tackle handmade sugar tulips - they are just too lovely!
This cake had a wonderful, subtle texture that I added to the tiers - loved how it turned out! And also happy I took so many different photos from different angles.

A Spring Wedding
It is spring here in Toronto, although you wouldn't know it.... our weather is sunny, rainy, snowy, warm and cold all in one day. But it always makes it interesting!
I had the pleasure of creating a wedding cake for a wonderful spring wedding which took place at the beautiful Toronto Hunt Club. What a gorgeous setting overlooking the water for this sweet couple.
Their 3-tier cake design was simple and elegant: Small flowers dusted with pearl lustre dust and pale pink lustre dust. The top tier was Zesty Lemon Butter cake with lemon buttercream, middle tier was Orange Dream with chocolate buttercream and bottom tier was Chocolate Sour Cream cake with vanilla swis meringue buttercream.
Here is a view from the top. I actually underestimated the number of sugarpaste flowers I needed for the cake needed - Any guesses?
The couple also had matching cupcake takeaways for their guests. Chocolate Sour Cream cupcakes with Vanilla Swiss Meringue Buttercream.

Wedding Cakes Inspired by the Wedding Dress
When designing a cake, sometimes the elements can be inspired by the bride's wedding dress. It can be a single element, it can be exactly the dress or it can be the main elements of dress. Here are two wedding cakes that I made which were completely inspired by the wedding dress.
This cake was inspired by Vera Wang's Dinah dress in a light ivory. The top and middle tier were Strawberry Vanilla cake with strawberry buttercream and the bottom tier was Chocolate Sour Cream Cake with chocolate buttercream.

The couple also had 2 cherries as part of the design of their invitations, so I was able to encorporate it into the piping and also to the cake stand. I love this angle for this photo.
This 2-tier cake was for a couple who were married overseas. The design was based off of a photo just after they said their "I Do's" at their beach wedding.Tuesday, July 27, 2010
7-tier Wedding Cake
There is nothing worse than non-stop rain showers when you have to deliver a 7-tier wedding cake. But I was very lucky, the rain subsided in the evening when I had to deliver this wedding cake to a reception held in Toronto's Distillery District.
This off-white 7-tier cake was alternating tiers of zesty lemon and strawberry vanilla cake. Each tier was different heights and decorated with different styles, textures and lustre to give it a tall, elegant and grand look.

The bride provided me this photo of the gorgeous flower on her wedding dress which I replicated in sugarpaste. I wanted it to be perfect - I actually re-made the flower 4 times to get it just right.

Simple and Elegant Wedding Cakes
Happy July everyone! Summer is definitely here and lots of wedding celebrations. Here are a couple of photos of simple and elegant wedding cakes with handmade sugarpaste flowers.
I always find it interesting to see how they look before they are delivered and then finally when they are set up at the event. The lighting, how the table is set up and what angles can be seen.

This wedding took place at a wonderful and charming restaurant in downtown Toronto called La Maquette.
