In the Night Garden Cake

I discovered a new children's show last week when researching for my next cake for a little boys 2nd birthday.

The cake was based on a show from the UK called In the Night Garden. These characters are soooo cute - they don't have voices, but seem to squeak and make strange noises.

This cake was a 3-layer lemon cake with vanilla swiss meringue buttercream. All characters were handmade out of sugarpaste - they were quite fun to make.

January 26, 2010 Update - Check out my latest In the Night Garden 2-tier cake.

My niece would love this cake. She introduced me to Iggle Piggle (I think that's the name) and all the rest of the characters at a Toys R Us visit back in September.

The cakes is amazing!!! You are so talented.

Yes - the blue guy is Igglepiggle, the girl is Upsy Daisy, the short guy is Makka Pakka and the train-like thing on the side of the cake is called Ninky Nonk.

OMG ... Tom and I saw that show when we were in Scottland and were bewildered!! Apparently Iggle Piggle had lost his blanket ... I may have to order this for Tom's birthday!!

As usual, amazing job!

Hi Kathleen - I once took a Marzipan sculpting course at George Brown in Toronto. But I think I learned mostly through trial and error.... lots of error... :-)
