Sesame Street Cake n' Cupcakes

Sesame Street characters just makes you smile, so I had so much fun making these characters out of sugarpaste.  I loved how the cake turned out for a little boy's 2nd birthday.

The top tier was Strawberry Vanilla cake with strawberry buttercream.  The bottom tier was chocolate sour cream cake with vanilla swiss meringue buttercream.
I'm not sure who my favorite character is, but I was told that the boy loved Cookie Monster the best.
I dug up these photos of cupcakes that I have made for some other clients - how fun are these?

My Career and Hobbies.... in Cake!

I was asked by a friend how I would describe myself in a cake - would it be different designs on a cupcake, a carved cake or an tall wedding-ish type cake?

I thought long and hard about this one.  I wanted to really portray my career and hobbies.  Aside from running my custom cake business, I also spend half my time as a Personal Trainer.  Fitness is also a big part of my life, I have done many marathons and triathlons (including 1 Ironman so far).

Here is what I came up with to describe my career and hobbies in a cake:  Cake designer, blogger, personal trainer and cyclist.  Everything is edible and handmade out of sugarpaste.  The bosu ball is actually a very small cake.  This cake also doubles as a handy business card holder too :-)      Tell me, what would your cake look like?

3rd Birthday: Sphinx Cake

A very popular blog post of mine was the King Tut cake.  I was so happy to get another order with an Egyptian theme and also requesting the carved hieroglyphics on the cake board.

This cake was for a 3rd birthday for a girl who loves all things Egypt, especially the Sphinx.
This is where it began with the cake board which is covered with fondant and handcarved with hieroglyphics.  Well, not real hieroglyphics, I made this up.  Then dusted with tan and grey edible dust to look ancient.

This is where it all began.... Soon this would become the Sphinx.

Here's what the cake looked like all carved up and ready to be iced with buttercream.

The cake is covered in fondant and where I started to get some of the textures on the sides of the cake.

The final details were to paint the headdress of the Sphinx, similar to a toy that the little girl had, and a bit more hieroglyphics.  What a fun cake - hope you enjoyed the photos!

Lost Cake

Anyone a Lost TV Series fan?  I don't watch this show, but when I received this cake order, I had to do lots of research.  Sounds like a great show - someday I will have to rent them all.

This cake was ordered for a surprise 28th birthday party for a guy who loves Lost.  His girlfriend asked me to recreate the members of Season 1.  I designed this 2-tier chocolate sour cream cake - first tier of cake is the island and top tier is the charred remains of the airplane.  Everything and everyone on this cake is handmade and edible.
For those Lost fans out there, you are probably wondering who the character in the Red Wings Jersey is - its the birthday boy.

Baby Shower Cakes: More Cuteness!

Lots of cute photos today.  So, I'll just get right to it....  This 4-tier cake was for a baby shower and the design was inspired by the cute monkey invitation below.
I love this invitation.  Not sure who the designer is, but if you do, let me know so I can link over to them.
Here is a view from the top.  The flavors were Strawberry Vanilla cake with strawberry buttercream and, my newest flavor, Orange Dream cake with vanilla swiss meringue buttercream.
And how cute are these handmade sugar Ralph Lauren shoes.
Here's another baby shower cake - I just love the block lettering and the soft colors .  The father-to-be ordered this cake.  He sent me a photo of the babies room, so I tried to match the colors of pale moss green shade on the white textured board.
Here is a view from the top.
And the flavor.... 8 layers of chocolate sour cream cake with vanilla swiss meringue buttercream.
