Fondant Covered Cookies

I usually stick to my specialty of custom cakes and cupcakes, but on occasion, I have dabbled in making some fondant covered sugar cookies.  These cookies are usually for a selection at a Sweet Table or a takeaway gift.

Some cute little sweets for a cute little baby shower.  The cakes were strawberry vanilla with strawberry cream cheese icing.
Some matching fondant covered sugar cookies which were also given away in the little packages.

Bridal Shower Sweet Table

Another fabulous sweet table collaboration with one of my clients for a bridal shower.  The theme was an elegant lace and antique-y design.  My client decorated the room with so many handmade flowers and accents - it was amazing!  She hand-soaked the paper doilies in tea and baked them - now that is patience and creativity.
The desserts included: lemon meringues, white chocolate dipped pretzels, brownie cake pops (made by my client), lemon tarts, 3 strawberry vanilla cakes with strawberry buttercream covered in vanilla swiss meringue buttercream, double chocolate cake bites, fondant lace sugar cookies and milk and fruit skewers (made by my client)
I really loved how these fondant lace sugar cookies turned out!

3rd Birthday: Toopy and Binoo Cake

And just like that, my daughter Sidney turned 3 last week.  She had been asking for a Toopy and Binoo cake for the longest time.  For this design, I made fondant cutouts and drew the characters with edible marker and edible colors.
It was just a small celebration with family so I had a simple sweet table including mini strawberry vanilla cupcakes (with a side of Patchy Patch), fresh market cherries, paleo chocolate cake bites and rainbow fruit skewers.
Here's a blurry picture of me and my little one.  Happy Birthday to my sweet Sidney!

Sesame Street Sweet Table

A follow-up from last week's Sesame Street cake for my daughter.  We had a small get-together with our family with this snack and dessert table.
The desserts included a neopolitan birthday cake and strawberry vanilla cupcakes.  We have some family members that follow a paleo diet so I also had paleo chocolate chunk cookies, paleo chocolate avocado brownies and lots of fruits and veggies.
Happy 2nd Birthday to my sweet girl!
Another photo of the fun Sesame Street ideas - thanks to Pinterest for all the ideas!

Baby Shower Sweet Table

I had the pleasure of collaborating with my client to put together this lovely baby shower dessert table.  The color theme was yellow with a little grey.  There was a lovely array of desserts and flowers that we discussed with sketches and over email.  How wonderful it was to see everything come together on the lovely Sunday!

The desserts included:  Mini Donuts, White Chocolate dipped pretzels, lemon tarts, strawberry vanilla cake, brownie cake pops (made by the host), double chocolate chip cookies and milk, passion fruit and vanilla macarons (made by Bobette & Belle), cinnamon rolls, two-bite brownies and a selection of candies.
It was a beautiful collaboration and I can't wait to do another sweet table!

Wedding Sweet Table

I had the pleasure of doing another sweet table at Cedar Ridge Creative Center.  It was the same place that I had my wedding almost 2 years ago.

It was a very long Sweet Table and the bride also added in a little candy station and do-it-yourself s'mores station.  Don't you just love that "Just Married" banner which the bride purchased on Etsy.
The color theme was canary yellow which was very fun to coordinate in the sweets which included:  mini zesty lemon cupcakes, mini cinnamon rolls, cookie dough bites, lemon crinkle cookies, rice krispie dipped in chocolate, triple chocolate brownies, kettle corn and a 3-tier strawberry vanilla cake.
Here's are some photos of the wedding cake with handmade sugarpaste peonies.

Classic Pooh 1st Birthday Sweet Table

Last week, my daughter Sidney turned 1!  Ever since I did this wonderful Classic Pooh cake, I knew that the theme for her party would be Classic Pooh.  We read lots of the Pooh books and every morning she gives her Pooh doll, Bear, a big hug.

We had a wonderful family BBQ with fabulous weather, a visit to the park and enjoyed the sweet table.
The sweet table included: Lemon sandwich cookies with strawberry cream, homemade fudge with sea salt, triple chocolate brownies, chocolate covered pretzel pieces (those were for me), chocolate dipped rice krispie, cherries, watermelon and a 3D Classic Pooh cake which was chocolate & vanilla.
I will post more photos on Friday of the Bear cake, as I remembered to take step-by-step photos!  See you then!

Baby Shower Sweet Table

In May, I posted some baby shower cakes and announced my own baby news.  What comes next?  A baby shower sweet table for ME!
2 weeks ago, my mom and sister threw me a backyard baby shower and I had the pleasure to make the dessert table for my family and friends.  My sister, Yvonne, (who has a very creative blog called choo cha handmade that you have to check out!!) gave me this pinwheel design as inspiration.
To start off the dessert table, a 4-tier lemon butter cake with vanilla swiss meringue buttercream decorated with handmade sugarpaste pinwheels.
Handmade strawberry marshmallows, fondant decorated sugar cookies and strawberry vanilla cupcakes with strawberry buttercream.
... pinwheel sugar cookies and handmade vanilla bean marshmallows dipped in caramel and graham cracker crumbs.
Sweet n' salty boxed kettle corn, dark chocolate covered pretzels and mini-raspberry jam donut muffins (recipe from Cakes and Bakes NI blog).
One last thing... a lovely SURPRISE... our baby decided to arrive 3 weeks early.  So, 10 days ago, a healthy little 6lb girl named Sidney entered our lives.  We feel so lucky and it has been an amazing experience so far.  More next Tuesday - have a nice week!

New Years Eve Sweet Table

2010 was a wonderful, fun and successful year at SweetThings.  So many celebration cakes, fabulous clients, challenging cake designs, wonderful people I have met over Twitter and the blog world...  I am so thankful.

My last cake for 2010 was this New Years Eve Sweet Table.  The photos are a little fuzzy, but there was a flashing disco ball in the room and I have no idea how to shoot that type of photo.  :-)
The Dessert Table included rice krispie squares dipped in milk chocolate, cranberry white chocolate biscotti, mini strawberry vanilla cupcakes, triple chocolate brownies with swiss meringue buttercream, chocolate cream cheese sandwiches and a small candy station of treats.
The disco ball and its stand was vanilla butter cake with vanilla swiss meringue buttercream.  I was inspired by the disco ball cake made by Baker's Cakes in NC - I loved her idea to color each little fondant square and add each one to the ball.  A very realistic look, worth the effort!
