Wedding Cupcake Tower
It was such a beautiful wedding atmosphere at Auberge du Pommier restaurant in Toronto. A simple and elegant wedding cupcake tower to complement the surroundings.
The cupcakes were chocolate sour cream with strawberry icing and zesty lemon with swiss meringue buttercream.

Mad Scientist Cake
Last year, this birthday boy got a Crocodile Cake. This year it is a Mad Scientist theme. I had some amazing graphics and color palette as inspiration for this cake.
I painted the mad scientist with edible ink onto a sugarpaste background.
And when they cut inside.... isn't that fun?!!

Sesame Street Sweet Table
A follow-up from last week's Sesame Street cake for my daughter. We had a small get-together with our family with this snack and dessert table.
The desserts included a neopolitan birthday cake and strawberry vanilla cupcakes. We have some family members that follow a paleo diet so I also had paleo chocolate chunk cookies, paleo chocolate avocado brownies and lots of fruits and veggies.
Happy 2nd Birthday to my sweet girl!
Another photo of the fun Sesame Street ideas - thanks to Pinterest for all the ideas!Tuesday, July 16, 2013
2nd Birthday Cake: Sesame Street Cake
I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. Earlier this month, my daughter Sidney celebrated her 2nd birthday. I knew for a long time that it would be a Sesame Street theme but she kept changing her favorite character every month.
For this design, I was able to incorporate all the characters.
And here is the back of the cake. I got the lettering idea from an Instagram Photo that SugarBaking posted. She said the idea came from an Amy Atlas post of a Muppet Dessert Table.

Similar to Sidney's 1st birthday, I created a dessert table. Here is a little sneak peak of some of the decorations. I will post all the photos of the sweet table next week.

Pink and Gold Wedding Cake
I had the pleasure of creating this wedding cake for one of my dearest friends and her wonderful husband. She was very easy going and not picky about the design. I was also her bridesmaid so she wanted me to do whatever was easiest. She gave me a color palette of her flowers and said she liked square cake tiers.
The wedding was at the lovely, Graydon Hall Manor in Toronto. It was a perfect wedding weekend of events. I loved how the handmade sugarpaste flowers and final design turned out.
As I said in my Instagram post, each petal was worth it!

Fraggle Rock Cake: The Process
Today I wanted to share the process of how a custom designed cake comes together. There is a lot of planning involved in cake design, even to provide a price quote. For many cakes, the structures have to be built in advance or petals for sugar flowers started a couple weeks earlier.
For this Fraggle Rock cake, the main design was provided to me. I added in a bottom tier and some extra characters as the cake needed to feed over 100 people.
I started the sugarpaste decorations a week in advance. I made sure I had lots of photos of the characters to use as inspiration. My client provided me with these helpful plastic 3D characters to use as models.
There were a lot of colors involved in making the characters and you really have to get into the zoone of figure modelling. I leave extra time to re-do any characters and sometimes make an extra one of a fragile item. I probably worked 3 late nights to finish all the characters and details.
The day before, I iced my cakes with vanilla swiss meringue buttercream. The bottom tier was 14" and the top tier was 11". Each cake was 5 layers of alternating vanilla bean cake and chocolate sour cream cake. Marjory was all cake too, except for her sugarpaste hands.
Everything started to come together with the top tier, I was very happy with the character sizes. The cake was pretty heavy so I kept the tiers separate until the delivery. Hope you enjoyed these pictures and have a great week!
