Fun Corporate Cakes and Cookies

Now here's a fun fun fun corporate cake order for the holiday.  I had so much fun with this one!  My client's corporate gifts were based off of one of her products, toenail fungus ointment.  She had a lot of fun delivering these cakes - which really were delicious!
How about these fondant-covered cookies?  Her clients loved it.   During one of her deliveries, she ended up with a flat tire.  A nice gentlemen helped her out and she thanked him with a package of cookies.  A good laugh for everyone :-)

The Shoebox Project

Christmas spirit is about giving and sharing.  It is always wonderful when there are organizations that make it easy for us to share or lend a helping hand. I was happy to participate in The Shoebox Project where a friend organized donations and a party to assemble shoeboxes.  These shoeboxes are filled with useful gifts and treats with a $50 value then donated to a local Women's shelter.
http://www.shoeboxproject.com/index.html
This is such an amazing project.  Last year, this group my friend organized had donated 75 boxes and this year was an amazing 178 boxes.  My daughter and I will definitely participate every year!  Here are some of the local shelters that we were able to contribute to: Robertson House, Nazareth House, The Open Door and St. Vincent de Paul - Elisa House.
The shoebox drive is currently over, but save your goodies and look out for things throughout the year that you can donate in a shoebox!

Where the Wild Things Are Party

Last week, I posted a cake based off of the book Where the Wild Things are.  I'm so excited to share with you the party that my client threw.  Just to be clear, I didn't put this party together - these details were all put together by my client.  I was so amazed by her details and she let me share her photos.
She purchased some of the items from Etsy.  Now look how cute that birthday boy is!
Those straws say "I'll drink you up" and I love the "Wild Eats"

Where the Wild Things Are Cake

Having a 3 year old, I thought I knew most of the kids books around.  Somehow, I had missed this lovely illustrated book, Where the Wild Things Are.  The characters are just so amazing so I had lots of fun creating the design of this cake.
My client even surprised me and bought the book for my daughter to enjoy - how sweet is that! The cake was alternating layers of strawberry vanilla and vanilla bean cake with strawberry buttercream.

Black, White and Green Wedding Cake

Welcome November!  Here's a sweet black and white with a hint o' green wedding cake.  This cake was inspired by a wedding cake I did a few years ago.
The 3-tiers of cake were strawberry vanilla cake with strawberry buttercream.

Bridal Shower Sweet Table

Another fabulous sweet table collaboration with one of my clients for a bridal shower.  The theme was an elegant lace and antique-y design.  My client decorated the room with so many handmade flowers and accents - it was amazing!  She hand-soaked the paper doilies in tea and baked them - now that is patience and creativity.
The desserts included: lemon meringues, white chocolate dipped pretzels, brownie cake pops (made by my client), lemon tarts, 3 strawberry vanilla cakes with strawberry buttercream covered in vanilla swiss meringue buttercream, double chocolate cake bites, fondant lace sugar cookies and milk and fruit skewers (made by my client)
I really loved how these fondant lace sugar cookies turned out!

Taj Mahal Cake

The other week, I had a pleasure of creating the amazing Taj Mahal out of cake and sugarpaste.   The cake was to celebrate a 70th and 80th birthday.  It was so much fun. I love this photo with the antique filter.
I have never been there but after studying all the photos, this is a place that I must visit!

#ICEBucketChallenge Cake

I love the ALS #IceBucketChallenge as it has really showed that people are fun and they are willing to donate.  I loved seeing updates on Facebook from everyone, their kids and especially those people who rarely post.

I decided to have my own fun with this - I hope it counts! I have donated to ALS.ca and an unrelated charity The Jack Project.  I hope we all continue to research other organizations and continue regular donations when we can.
My best and positive thoughts go out to Team Frates who started this challenge to #StrikeOutALS.

Matryoshka Doll Cake

I have always loved Matryoshka Dolls, also known as Russian nesting dolls.  How exciting to be able to make a cake design for one of these!
Generally these dolls are narrower, but the client was very stressed about transporting and moving it, so I made her a little thicker.  That's better for everyone - more cake! :-)  The cake was strawberry vanilla cake with vanilla swiss meringue buttercream.

4th Birthday Cake: Superhero Cake

There is a wonderful non-profit organization called Icing Smiles which provide custom cakes to families affected by critical illness.  Their goal is to create a custom cake for the ill child, or their sibling, that provides a temporary escape from worry and creates a positive memory during a difficult time.  Volunteer "Sugar Angels" are matched up with the families across the country to deliver a "Smile" in the form of a custom cake.

I was honoured to be a sugar angel for Frankie, currently battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), who turned 4.   He is a true little superhero!
Please help if you canThe US Icing Smiles has been around for over 4 years and has delivered over 5000+ custom cakes.  In Canada, they have been around for over 1 year and unfortunately are in danger of losing their charity status.  We have 1 more week to raise enough funds to keep this going - please help if you can - every little bit helps.

Green and White Wedding Cake

A year ago, I made this little cupcake to congratulate one of my regular clients on her engagement.
A few weeks ago, she had her wedding day.  I love this green tone and how the handmade sugarpaste peonies turned out.  The cake was alternating layers of strawberry vanilla cake and vanilla bean cake, filled with strawberry buttercream and covered with vanilla swiss meringue buttercream.

3rd Birthday: Toopy and Binoo Cake

And just like that, my daughter Sidney turned 3 last week.  She had been asking for a Toopy and Binoo cake for the longest time.  For this design, I made fondant cutouts and drew the characters with edible marker and edible colors.
It was just a small celebration with family so I had a simple sweet table including mini strawberry vanilla cupcakes (with a side of Patchy Patch), fresh market cherries, paleo chocolate cake bites and rainbow fruit skewers.
Here's a blurry picture of me and my little one.  Happy Birthday to my sweet Sidney!

Summer Cupcakes

After that long long winter and lingering spring... summer is officially here in Toronto.  We've had a couple weekends of nice sun and hot weather.  So it's time to get out those flip flops :-) and enjoy some summer!
