Snowmen Cupcakes

The cold and the snow has come early in Toronto this year.  So, to make the most of it - I made these cute snowmen cupcakes.

These are vanilla cupcakes with a super-sweet vanilla frosting with sugar sprinkles on it.

A Fall Wedding

Well, It has been a while since I last posted - it has been a very busy couple of weeks.  I moved, went to Florida where I did my first Ironman and then went to DisneyWorld.  So, I'm still settling in but also very excited because the new appliances arrived on Tuesday.  I can't wait to start using them!

This week I have lots of cupcakes and a couple cakes to make, so I'll be able to test out the new oven.  In the meantime, I've posted a wedding cake that I made last month, just before

the move.

The wedding was at Graydon Hall and it was amazing there.  This cake was alternating layers of vanilla and chocolate butter cake with swiss meringue buttercream.  The flowers were all handmade with sugarpaste.  I made extra flowers which came in handy because the cake was displayed in the centre of the room where all sides were visible.

Cake Decorator's Tip:  Ask where the cake will be displayed and if all sides will be on display.   And always make extra flowers, just in case!

Looney Tunes Wedding Cake

What a fun cake that I was so happy to design - with a unique theme and very fun. The couple requested a looney tunes themed cake which was not overpowering, but elegant, yet fun. The love looney tunes and have always defined their relationship like the cake topper - Mark Anthony and Pussyfoot.

The main flower for their wedding was cala lillies so I was able to encorporate it into the cake. I made a large sugarpaste flower for the front and back and each character holding a mini-cala lilly. Each of the characters: Mark Anthony, PussyFoot, Tweety Bird, Yosemite Sam and Pippy LePew were all handmade out of sugarpaste. Challenging, but I was happy with the results!

Each tier was 4-layers of alternating Strawberry Vanilla cake and Lemon Sour Cream cake with Vanilla Swiss Meringue Buttercream

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!

Originally, I thought about making a cake shaped like a turkey - but I didn't have that much time this weekend.

So, here is what I came up with instead to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving.

The cake was a 4-layer chocolate sour cream cake and vanilla butter cake with swiss meringue buttercream. The leaves, turkey and stuffing were made from sugarpaste.

McDonald's Happy "Cake" Meal

This is one of my favourite cakes - and it was so fun! Its a McDonald's Happy Meal Cake.

The cheeseburger and drink are all made of cake and fondant.

The french fry package is paper, but the actual french fries are actually made of white chocolate with sugar sprinkles. Yum!

Very Square Cakes

I love tall cakes with lots of layers and especially when it is square. It is such a fun shape to decorate and look so yummy when you slice into it!

This is a square cake with circles - a very popular design for birthday cakes and also wedding cakes. It is different and also very fun.

This cake has 4 layers of Triple Chocolate Pudding Cake with Swiss Meringue Buttercream covered in regular fondant and chocolate fondant. The chocolate fondant is very good - it actually tastes like tootsie rolls.

This cake was for my mother's birthday and was 4-layers of vanilla butter cake.

The designs were made with Royal Icing then painted with bright pinks, blues and silver.

Central Park Cake

This was definitely one of my favourite cakes to design. The couple got engaged in Central Park last year, so they wanted to re-create that in a wedding cake.

They also gave me their grandmothers famous Double Chocolate Pudding Cake recipe. It was quite decadent!

The cake was quite large and had over 150 servings. I tried to fit in as many of the famous landmarks in and around central park including the lakes, Bethseda fountain, Bow Bridge, The Obelisk, Guggenheim, Belvedere Castle, Engineer's Gate, Bandshell, Turtle Pond, The Great Hill and many more. I even made taxicabs which lined the streets.

Here is a view from above.

I also attached a picture of the template I made which stuck on my table for the weeks leading up to the wedding day. It was great to see it all come together!

Another Baby Shower!

For some reason, the combination of Stars and Moons always reminds people of sleeping babies. So I made this cake for a baby shower.

The expectant parents are quite active in sports, so there were a few mini sports equipment around the sleeping baby.

Baby Shower Cake

It seems like everyone is having a baby these days!

All the more reason to celebrate and have some cake.

This was a 3-layer vanilla and chocolate butter cake with swiss meringue buttercream. All the baby items were handmade out of sugarpaste. The soother was my favourite.

Cute Colorful Turtle Cupcakes

These are the cutest cupcakes ever! It was not my idea, but I found the design on this great blog called Cake Journal.

Aren't they fun? The cupcakes are perfect for a baby shower of kids party. I actually made these for a girls get-together and they were a hit!
