1st Birthday: Classic Winnie the Pooh Cake

Many people ask if I have favorite cakes that I have made and it is really hard to narrow down a small selection.  However, I have to admit, I really fell in love with this cake design of Classic Winnie the Pooh.

The client said that I could do whatever I wanted for the 1st birthday cake.  I was so excited, as I love Classic Pooh.  I read the ABC book to my daughter every night before bedtime.
The 2-tiers of cake were banana sour cream cake with vanilla swiss meringue buttercream, as the birthday boy, Liam loves banana.
Here is sweet little Liam with his parents blowing out the candle (they had the perfectly matching candle too!)  I also received the most wonderful Thank You card in the mail from them last week - it sure made my day!

Angry Birds Cake

Happy Friday Everyone!  Just wanted to share this Angry Birds cake.  It's much more simpler than my previous and more elaborate Angry Birds cake.
Here's the Instagram photo of this cake.  Do you use Instagram?  It is an iPhone app that allows you to take photos or use photos from your gallery and easily apply a filter, frame and/or adding the fuzziness.  It's definitely fun way to play around with photos.

Guest Post: Blue Cupcake from LA

Today's post is part of our bi-weekly Guest Post: 5 Pics Series. We feature multi-talented cake designers from all over the world that I have met online.

Today we feature the very creative and talented Julie from Blue Cupcake.  She was born in Montreal, Canada and resides in Los Angeles, California.  Her mom taught her all about baking (from scratch, NEVER from a mix!) at a very young age.

Julie was first introduced to cake decorating when she was trying to find a local bakery to make custom cupcakes for her son's birthday.  It was impossible to find locally (in 2008) so she gave it a try and Blue Cupcake was born.  She updates her blog regularly with her wonderful creations, I think you'll agree that she is a true artist and has a unique style for her sweet creations.

 #2 - So Pretty

St. Patrick's Day Cake

I'm one day early... but I wanted to wish everyone a Happy St. Patrick's Day and share this fun little cake I made.  Hope you find your gold or at least something sweet at the end of the rainbow.

Some little fingers trying to get their hands on the gold... enjoy your weekend!

Silvery Wedding Cake

It's been a long time since I've had time to create a display cake.  I had a photoshoot last month, so it was the perfect opportunity to try out some techniques.  I wanted to create an unique shaped wedding cake with an elevated tier and some silver accents.
Just playing around with some photo editing software.
Have a great week!  I'll see you Friday with a little St. Patrick's Day post!

8th Birthday: Tiara Cake

Happy Friday everyone!  Just wanted to share this cute tiara cake I made for an 8th birthday.

I hadn't made anything princess-y in a while, but thankfully for Pinterest, I was reminded how to put together a tiara from a post that I re-pinned a while back.  There is a handy tutorial from Crafty Green Mommy.

Are you on Pinterest also?  Have you hopped on this addicting bandwagon yet?  It's an online scrapbook where you can save favorite ideas, inspirations, links, blog posts, recipes and much more.  I admit, at first, it is a true time-suck when you are putting it all together so you can have a true reflection of your scrapbook.  But then, it becomes easy to maintain and add stuff.

If you are on Pinterest, leave me a comment with your profile name and I'll follow you.  If you'd like an invite to join, leave me your email.
Here's another photo of the tiara using Instagram.  Are you on that too?  ;-)

Guest Post: Peggy Does Cake

Today's post is part of our bi-weekly Guest Post: 5 Pics Series.  We feature talented cake designers from all over the world that I have met online through blogs, twitter and this one is from Facebook.

Peggy Lee of Peggy Does Cake is from Brandon, MS.  In the spring of 2010, she attempted her first cake after watching a cake decorating show on TV.  She is completely self-taught using the internet, library, and Facebook community resources to learn about cake decorating.  She also spent several months trying out, testing and tweaking dozens upon dozens of recipes and techniques.

Today, nearly 2 years later, she's having a blast baking for family and friends as a hobbyist, with the dream of some day opening her own shop.  She has built up quite a fan base on her Facebook Page and also posts helpful tutorials on her blog.  Here is a sampling of some of her cakes:

#1 - Up!  How cute is this?
 #2 - Another cutie!
#3 - Wonderfully Topsy Turvy
#4 - Sweet and Girly
 #5 - Colorful and Fun!
To follow Peggy, you can find her on her blog or Facebook Page.
