Simple and Elegant Wedding Cake with Calla Lilies

Calla Lilies are such beautiful flowers and they come in so many different colors like white, pink and all shades of purple.

I just love making cupcakes or cakes with this elegant flower in sugarpaste.

Here's the wedding cake I made the other week with sugarpaste calla lilies.  The wedding took place at a wonderful restaurant in downtown Toronto called La Maquette.

The top two tiers were vanilla cake with vanilla swiss meringue buttercream and the bottom tier was Chocolate Sour Cream with chocolate buttercream.

  5. Nothing beats handmade sugar flowers, in this case lilies! (my favorite) After the wedding or celebration you can ask the cake decorator to glaze them so they last over 10 years, much better than fresh flowers.

  8. What a lovely cake. How long does it take you to create something like that? I just recently tasted buttercream frosting and I am hooked!

  9. Thank you everyone!

Baker's Cake - yes, I've been watching Cake Boss. But too much yelling and I don't get why he says that gumpaste flowers are edible - he has wires in them.

Marianne - I never actually calculate how long the cakes take me to decorate... I guess I just don't want to know :-) But I always make the flowers at least 5 days in advance and make extras.

Cake photos - What is glazing? Iman and I have never heard of that.

Inventing Weddings - This cake is actually covered in fondant. And I can't believe you only recently tasted buttercream frosting! :-)
